SPECIAL
UAL Local 19 NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE
May 31, 2013
Fellow members this
week has brought us to a close of the Interest Based Bargaining (IBB) we
entered into last year with United Airlines. Throughout this process your
committee representatives, Mike Nerren and Jack
Harran, along with their counterparts from both subsidiaries have worked in
Chicago to try and negotiate a contract that was in the best interest of both
groups. The past few weeks we have not been able to solidify agreements in any
of the phase two issues related to economics. Repeated attempts to negotiate
within a framework that would best serve all parties was
met with opposition and changing expectations.
What do we need from you? First and
foremost, patience while we enter into this next process, whatever it may be.
Meanwhile I will be challenging the Benefit differences between the new pilot’s
agreement and our Article 16. These areas should have been resolved in the IBB
process however, now we have to make sure our contractual rights to companywide
programs are addressed accordingly. We will all need to be aware of Scope
(Article 1) violations and when infractions take place bring them to a
steward’s attention. An example of this is, the announced ramp shutting down
the APU’s. Doing our duties as always will be our defense in maintaining the
work we currently perform.
Where do we go from here? That
question will be answered in the near future. The processes, as they are, will
either take us into traditional Section 6 Negotiations or Mediation. With that
said, we have not only a lot of current proposals to move forward on, but also
and more importantly, a great respect and relationship with our United committee
representatives that we have worked with. This is not the end of the road by
any means and we have the fortitude to see the amalgamation of these contracts
through to fruition.
Thanks for your time and we will have
more in depth information on this topic after the next GMM and as information
becomes available.
